Do I have certain rights in my Fathers house?
I'm 18 years old and living with my parents. I graduated high school in May and am planning on going away to college next fall. I'm an obedient daughter, I don't mooch off my parents, I do my share of the housework (more than my three brothers put together) and overall try not to be too much of a pain. But I'm sick and tired of having no rights. I can't go anywhere without specific permission, I can't buy anything (with my money) without specific permission, If I have one item out of place in my room my Dad charges me five dollars because he says the place is a pigsty, I'm not even allowed to have my bedroom door shut unless I'm changing. If i shut my bedroom door my Dad comes and throws it open without knocking. When I tell him that I think I should have the right to privacy in my own room he tells me I'm his child, living in his house, and I have no rights whatsoever. I told him the other day that fine I would just pack my stuff and move out, He sais I have nothing to pack none of its mine. Well for starters, I have purchased with my own money every scrap of clothing I own, I have a book collection of over two hundred books every one of which I purchased with my money, I have a laptop which was given to ME not HIM by my Grandparents, I have a quilt my Grandma made me and one I made for myself, I have countless things that are MINE. But he says that because I live in his house I have no rights whatsoever and anything I own is not really mine it's his because I live in his house and that if I leave I can't take any of it with me. Is that true or would I have the law on my side if I tried to take it all with me???
