Why are so many stores going out of business at once?

Why do some stores and restaurants do great and many fail. In my area in florida, we lost all our albertsons because publix grocery bought 49 of them, circuit city is liquidating tomorrow, we also lost lone star restaurant, dan pablos, tex mex, bennigans, hops, and 2 winn dixies all within a year. But best buy, walmart, applebees, and such are doing great. Anyone know the reasons.
