Why do westerners have such a one-sided perception of India?
When westerners(especially americans) think of India they think of poverty, slums, and every negative aspect of the country. I actually showed some Americans images of poverty and slums in India and they weren't surprised. Then I showed them images of fancy malls, clubs, modern infrastructure and tall buildings and they didn't believe it was also India. Why do westerners have such a negative, one-sided mentality towards India? Also I have realized that films and media in the U.S tend to reinforce these one-sided views. Is this because America and the western world isn't ready to accept that India is progressing. Yes, there is poverty but is that all their is to the country? So the 450 million (and growing) middle cl, 215,000 millionaires and 56 billionaires, isn't "real India" (like according to slumdog millionaire)? Why this one-sided view?
