How important is school attendance?

I mean do colleges and universities really take that into account or is it strictly marks? I missed a lot of school last semester and really fell behind at midterms (my average was a 60) but I straightened it around and ended with an 80 average. This semester I'm doing better, but it looks like I might not go today lol..
