During the Blitz, did the Royal Guards continue their palace vigil?
Something that I've been wondering since the last time I was in London. We all know the chaps with the scarlet tunics and bearskin hats who stand sentry duty outside the Queen's residences. Yet they are also serving soldiers from active units (with the very deadly rifles and bayonets that go with it), which begs the question: during the London Blitz of WW2, considering the ongoing struggle and the general chaos involved with constant bombing, was the guards' duty halted for the duration of the war or did they remain standing guard outside His Majesty's homes?
